EXERCISE SCENARIO

• A major heatwave in SoCal, now in its 5th day with no end in sight, is causing a surge in patients at LA County hospitals with heat related illnesses.

• Hospital resources are stretched to the limit as some personnel are also affected by the heat. 

• Making matters worse, the electrical infrastructure is at the brink of collapse. 

• Frequent power outages are also straining communications networks, as cell tower batteries are depleted and backup generators are failing. 

• Generator replacements are in short supply.

• Amateur radio operators are rendering assistance to their neighbors.

• Net control has been established on the DARN system.

• The MAC has asked LAXNORTHEAST operators to prepare to deploy to hospitals.
